HPL is the file extension of an HP Graphics file and an HPGL (Hewlett Packard Graphics Language) Plotter file. It was developed and published by Hewlett Packard.
A vector image is one that is drawn using lines instead of dots. HPGL, or Hewlett Packard Graphics Language, is a graphics language or a set of instructions that is sent to plotter printers, which on receiving these instructions, draws the vector images. The HPL file contains both the vector image as well as the HPGL instructions for plotter printers.
HPL is an open standard file format that is supported by most programs. It may be opened directly using IMSI TurboCAD on Windows and Mac OS, Corel Paint Shop Pro on Windows, Software Companions ViewCompanion on Windows, XnView on Windows and Mac OS, Lemkesoft CADintosh on Mac OS, Lemkesoft Graphic Converter on Mac OS, and Cenon on Mac OS and Linux.
It is also possible to convert an HPL file into another file type. This may be done in two ways – either by first opening the file in its default program and then saving it in another file format, or by using a software program to convert the HPL file into another file format. The most common program used for conversions is the Total CAD Converter. The Total CAD Converter is a very useful tool that easily converts any image file into another image file type. An added advantage is that it can also resize the file according to one’s need.
