How does VisualRenamer work?

If you want to rename a group of files or folders you should do the following:
  1. Select the folders in Explorer panel:

  2. Check "Rename folders" - if you want to rename folders. If there are subfolders that you want to rename too please check "Process subfolders"

  3. Select a preset scheme or your scheme from the popup list. You can also create a new scheme (more details):

    Bookmarks

    Preset schemes:

    • Basic schemes
      • Convert all the letters of the file name and extension to uppercase
      • Convert all letters of the file name and extension to lowercase
      • Make the first letter of the file name uppercase and the others lowercase
    • Time schemes
      • Add date of change to the end of the file name
      • Make date of change the file name
    • Renaming schemes
      • Rename files to: 000001.extension, 000002.extension, 000003.extension etc.
      • Replace the extension with that one typed in the dialog
      • Replace blanks with underscores
    • Schemes for mp3 files
      • Make file name like "Àrtist - Àlbum - Song"
      • Make file name like "Àrtist - Song"
      • Make file name like "Àrtist - Song (the time of the song)
    • Schemes for images
      • Sort the images by the date
      • Rename photos by photo descriptor

  4. The scheme you once selected will be applied to all files or folders in the current folders. If you don't want to rename all files or all subfolders in the folder uncheck the checkboxes of those files or folders you don't need. Besides you can use some special options for selecting files (more details).

  5. The result will be displayed in Preview of renaming.
    To apply renaming select Action\Rename in the toolbar or press the button Rename.

Note: Using VisualRenamer renaming files you can also copy or move them:

  1. Select Action\Ñopy (Action\Move) in the main toolbar or press the button Copy (Move)

  2. You can selct target folder or create a new one "Create folder" in the dialog.

Undo renaming
To undo the last renaming select Action\Undo the last renaming or press the button Undo.
Besides you can use some special options:
  1. Select View\Go to the bookmark "History of renaming" or press Alt+2 or make a double click on the bookmark "View the history of renaming/undo renaming".

  2. Check the checkboxes of those files that you don't want to rename
  3. Select Action\Undo the last renaming or press Undo.
