| Description | The AMR format uses a speech coding pattern, which is now applied in the GSM system. It encodes compressed spoken audio data and uses multi-rate codecs, such as DTX, ACELP, CNG and VAD. There are eight bitrate values for AMR, ranging from 4.75 kb/s to 12.2 kb/s. This structure allows the codecs to create a group of 160 twenty-millisecond-long samples within a frame. AMR files can be played in a number of Windows-based media players, as well as mobile devices, such as Android, Apple, etc. Most users prefer to convert AMR tracks to MP3, WMA, etc. tracks. |

| Description | WAV file extension is related to a digital audio format that is used for storing sound tracks with lossless quality. It allows saving audio data with different bitrates and frequencies. The standard configuration is 44,1 kHz, 16 bps, stereo. WAV files have much in common with AIFF files, but they are based on RIFF technology instead of AIFF. WAV files are mostly used on Windows platform, being supported by Windows Media Players and other programs. Most often codec is MS ADPCM. |

AMR is compressed speech. WAV is uncompressed audio. Converting AMR to WAV expands the compressed frames back to PCM so the file opens in every audio editor, DAW, and transcription tool without needing a codec. Drop your .amr file above.
AMR (Adaptive Multi-Rate) is the audio codec used on virtually all mobile phones for voice calls and voice memos. The .amr file extension indicates narrow-band AMR (4.75–12.2 kbps, 8 kHz sample rate). AMR-WB (Wideband) extends that to 23.85 kbps at 16 kHz. The codec optimises for intelligible speech, not music, so background sounds, instruments and wide-spectrum audio are reproduced poorly. Outside of mobile platforms, AMR has almost no native playback support.
WAV (Waveform Audio File Format) was developed by Microsoft and IBM in 1991. It stores uncompressed PCM audio — or any codec wrapped in the RIFF container — with no quality loss. The practical limit of a standard WAV file is 4 GB due to a 32-bit chunk size field. WAV is natively supported on Windows, macOS, Linux, and virtually all audio hardware and DAWs. It is the standard interchange format for professional audio production and CD mastering.
