You received a .jww file from a Japanese architect or contractor and AutoCAD refuses to open it. Jw_cad uses a proprietary native format that no mainstream CAD application reads. Converting the .jww drawing to DXF turns it into the universal 2D exchange format, so you can open, view, and edit the geometry in AutoCAD, LibreCAD, BricsCAD, or any other 2D CAD package without installing Jw_cad.
A .jww file is the native drawing format of Jw_cad (also written JW-CAD), a free 2D CAD program written by Jiro Shimizu and Yoshifumi Tanaka. Jw_cad is extremely popular in Japan for architecture and construction, where it is a de facto standard on many building projects. The .jww format stores lines, arcs, circles, dimensions, hatching, and layers in a proprietary binary structure. Because the format is undocumented and Japan-specific, AutoCAD and other mainstream CAD tools cannot open .jww files directly.

The converter reads the binary .jww structure and extracts the drawing entities — lines, arcs, circles, polylines, text, dimensions, hatching, and layer assignments. Each Jw_cad entity is mapped to the equivalent DXF entity and written into the tagged DXF group-code structure that AutoCAD and other CAD programs understand. Layers and coordinates are preserved so the drawing keeps its original scale and organization. The output is a standard .dxf file that opens directly in AutoCAD, LibreCAD, BricsCAD, and any 2D CAD package, with no Jw_cad installation required.
