TIFF File

File extension .TIFF, .TIF
CategoryImage File
DescriptionThe TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) is a widely-used file format for storing digital images, developed by Aldus Corporation (now owned by Adobe Systems). It is a versatile format that supports a wide range of color depths, resolutions, and image types, making it suitable for use in a variety of applications.

MIME to TIFF Converter — Frequently Asked Questions ▼

A MIME file (.mime or .eml) is a saved, self-contained copy of an email message in RFC 2822 format: headers (From, To, Date, Subject), body parts (plain text and/or HTML via multipart/alternative), inline images (multipart/related), and attachments (multipart/mixed), all encoded together in one text file. It is the raw message exactly as it was transmitted over the internet — not a database entry like Outlook .msg, but a standards-based file any mail client can read.
The converter renders the email as it would appear in a mail reader: headers at the top, then the HTML or plain-text body including inline images, and a cover sheet listing attachments. Long emails flow across multiple TIFF pages. If the message carries convertible attachments (PDF, DOCX, PNG, JPG), those can be rendered as additional pages. Encrypted or rare attachment types are listed on the cover sheet rather than rendered.
300 dpi is the standard choice for text-heavy emails intended for archiving or printing on A4/Letter pages. Choose 150 dpi for quick previews or when file size matters. Use 400–600 dpi if the email contains small-print signatures, stamps, or fine table lines that need to be legible at 1:1 zoom. CCITT Group 4 compression works best for black-and-white bilevel output; LZW or ZIP is better for color HTML-rich messages.
Encrypted messages must be decrypted in your mail client first, then exported as a plain .mime/.eml file before uploading. If you upload an encrypted message, the converter renders the encrypted payload text rather than the readable content. Digitally signed messages (S/MIME signatures) are rendered as human-readable output, but no cryptographic validation (trust chain, OCSP, LTV) is performed — use your organization's approved validator for legal signature verification.
The online converter accepts MIME files up to 50 MB. A typical business email with a few PDF attachments is 1–10 MB. Emails with many embedded Base64-encoded images or large binary attachments can exceed 50 MB — in those cases, strip large attachments in your mail client, save the message again, then convert. For high-volume or automated conversion, use CoolUtils desktop tools with watched-folder and command-line support.
The online converter processes one file at a time. For batch e-discovery exports, compliance archiving, or automated mail workflows, use the CoolUtils desktop mail converter. It processes entire folders of .eml files from the command line, applies consistent DPI and compression settings, names output files by subject or date, and integrates into watched-folder pipelines without any user interaction.

What Is a MIME File?

MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) is the standard format used by email to package content: plain text and/or HTML bodies (multipart/alternative), inline images (multipart/related), and file attachments (multipart/mixed). Files saved as .mime or .eml contain full message headers, body, and encoded attachments. Some web archives (.mht/.mhtml) also use MIME packaging.
