The converter reads the geometry from the STEP file and writes it out as DXF entities — lines, arcs, and polylines — in the format 2D CAD and cutting software expect. Because DXF is fundamentally a 2D drawing format, the conversion is most useful for getting outlines, profiles, and flat geometry out of a 3D model for cutting and drafting. The result is a standard .dxf file that opens in AutoCAD, LibreCAD, and the software that drives laser, plasma, and waterjet cutters.
