Outside South Korea, almost no software opens HWP natively — Microsoft Word, LibreOffice, and macOS Preview all reject the format without extra plugins. What content from an HWP document gets carried into the XLS file?

Tables and structured data inside the HWP document are extracted into Excel rows and columns. Plain text from paragraphs is placed in consecutive cells. Embedded images are not transferred — XLS holds numeric and text data, not page-layout graphics. Formatting like bold, fonts, and colors in the original Hangul document may be simplified or lost because XLS cells carry cell-level formatting rather than character-level styling.

Does the converter handle Korean (Hangul) characters correctly?

Yes. The output XLS file is written with UTF-16 encoding internally, which is what Excel uses to store Unicode text. Korean Hangul syllables, Hanja characters, and mixed Korean-Latin text all appear correctly when the file is opened in Excel or LibreOffice Calc. If you see question marks or boxes, check that your spreadsheet application is not set to a legacy code page like EUC-KR.

The HWP file contains multiple sections and tables — how are they laid out in XLS?

Each table from the HWP document is placed sequentially in the worksheet, separated by blank rows. Section headings that appear as styled paragraphs are placed in a single cell as plain text. If the HWP has several large tables, they appear one after another on a single sheet. For complex documents with many distinct tables, you may want to split content across sheets manually after conversion.

What is the maximum file size the online converter accepts?
