DXF is the universal CAD exchange format — supported by AutoCAD, FreeCAD, LibreCAD, BricsCAD, and hundreds of other applications. But recipients who need to review a drawing (clients, contractors, fabricators, project managers) rarely have CAD software installed. Converting DXF to PDF produces a scalable, printable, universally viewable document that opens on any device without a CAD license.
DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) was created by Autodesk in 1982 to enable interoperability between AutoCAD and third-party CAD applications. Unlike DWG (AutoCAD's proprietary binary format), DXF is either ASCII text or binary with a documented structure that any software can parse. DXF is the de facto standard for sharing CAD geometry across different tools and platforms.
DXF files store geometric entities (lines, arcs, splines, polylines, dimensions, text, hatches), layer definitions, block references, and coordinate system data. The format has been updated with each AutoCAD release (DXF R12, R14, 2000, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2018).

The converter renders all common DXF entity types: LINE, ARC, CIRCLE, ELLIPSE, POLYLINE, LWPOLYLINE, SPLINE, 3DFACE, SOLID, TEXT, MTEXT, DIMENSION, LEADER, HATCH, BLOCK (INSERT), and raster IMAGE references. Layers are preserved as PDF Optional Content Groups. Line weights and colors from the DXF are applied to the PDF rendering.
