What Markdown content actually maps to Excel cells?

Markdown tables are the primary content that converts cleanly to Excel. A Markdown table (| Col1 | Col2 | with --- separator rows) becomes an Excel worksheet with header cells in row 1 and data in subsequent rows. Headings (#, ##) are placed in single cells as plain text labels. Unordered lists become single-column data: each list item occupies one cell. Paragraphs of prose text are placed in a single cell per paragraph. Fenced code blocks are placed in a single cell preserving whitespace.

Does the converter preserve Markdown table formatting like alignment?

Markdown table column alignment (colons in the separator row: :--- for left, :---: for center, ---: for right) is respected in the Excel output — corresponding cells receive Excel alignment formatting. Header cells (first row above the --- separator) are formatted as bold. Cell content with inline formatting (bold, italic, code) is stripped of Markdown syntax and placed as plain text, since Excel cells do not support inline mixed formatting.

My Markdown file has multiple tables — do they go into separate sheets?

By default, all tables and other content are placed sequentially on a single worksheet, separated by blank rows. If you need each Markdown table in its own Excel sheet, split the Markdown into separate .md files (one table per file) before converting, or reorganize the worksheets manually in Excel after conversion. Each table's header section (a Markdown heading above the table) becomes the sheet label hint but does not automatically create new sheets.

What happens to content that has no Excel equivalent, like images or HTML?

Inline images (![alt](url)) are rendered as their alt text in a single cell — the actual image is not embedded in Excel from a Markdown source. Raw HTML blocks inside Markdown are stripped of tags and their text content is placed in cells. Footnotes, if present, are converted to plain text without footnote linking. The output focuses on data fidelity for tabular content; rich media is simplified.

What is the maximum MD file size the online converter accepts?

The online converter accepts Markdown files up to 50 MB. Markdown is plain text, so even a 1,000-row data table formatted in Markdown is typically under 1 MB. Very large .md files usually contain Base64-encoded images in data URIs — strip those out before converting, as they add file size without contributing useful spreadsheet content.
