MDB to HTML Converter — Frequently Asked Questions ▼

MDB is the Microsoft Access database format (Jet/DAO engine). It was the standard for desktop database applications throughout the 1990s and 2000s — used in inventory systems, contact managers, CRM tools, and countless custom departmental apps. Access 97 through 2003 used the .mdb extension; Access 2007 onwards switched to .accdb. Many organizations still maintain MDB files as read-only archives of legacy operational data that they need to publish or distribute without providing live database access.
Each exported table or query result becomes a separate HTML table with a header row showing column names. Numbers are right-aligned, dates use consistent formatting, and Boolean (Yes/No) fields are rendered as 'Yes'/'No' text. Long Text (Memo) fields are displayed in their full cell with preserved line breaks. If multiple tables are exported, each appears as a labeled section on the page with a navigation anchor. The page uses sticky headers and zebra-row styling for legibility.
No. HTML is a flat document format — relational links between Access tables are not rendered automatically. If you need to show related data (for example, orders with their customer names and line items), create an Access query that joins the relevant tables with the relationships you want, then export that query's result. The converter turns whatever table or query result you select into flat HTML rows.
No. Password-protected MDB files cannot be opened without the correct database password. Remove the password in Access first (Database Tools → Unencrypt Database), then re-upload the unprotected MDB. If you only have the MDB file and not the Access password, there is no way to convert it.
The online converter accepts MDB files up to 50 MB. Most legacy operational MDB databases containing table data are well under this size. If your MDB is large due to embedded binary attachments in OLE Object fields, export only the tables with text and numeric data from Access first, omitting the binary columns. This produces a smaller, cleaner MDB for conversion.
The online tool converts one file at a time. For recurring scheduled exports — for example, refreshing a weekly intranet report from an Access database — CoolUtils desktop tools support command-line batch operation. Run the converter on a schedule with Windows Task Scheduler, specifying the MDB path, output HTML path, and table/query name. The output HTML can be written directly to a web-accessible folder for immediate publication.

MDB to HTML: Publish Microsoft Access Data to the Web

Need to share data from a Microsoft Access database without sending the database itself? This online MDB-to-HTML converter turns .mdb (Access/Jet) files into clean, browser-friendly HTML tables you can open anywhere or drop into your CMS—in seconds, with no installs or signup. Upload your MDB, choose HTML, and download a self-contained page ready for email, intranet, or documentation.

What Is an MDB File?

.mdb is the classic Microsoft Access database format (Jet/DAO) used by Access 97–2003 and many legacy apps. It can store tables, queries, indexes, and relationships, plus data types like numbers, text, dates/times, currency, Yes/No, and memo (long text). Modern Access uses .accdb; many systems still archive data as MDB.
