Converting from XLSX to XLS may truncate data if your sheet exceeds the XLS row/column limits.

Will formulas, named ranges, and conditional formatting survive the conversion?

Standard Excel formulas, named ranges, and most conditional formatting rules are preserved in XLS. A small number of formatting types introduced after Excel 2003 — certain gradient fills and icon set styles — are downgraded or removed because the XLS format does not support them. Data validation rules and basic cell styles are retained.

Is there a risk of data loss with large spreadsheets?

Yes, if your XLSX sheet has more than 65,536 rows or 256 columns, those rows and columns beyond the XLS limits are silently dropped. Always check your sheet dimensions before converting. The online converter processes the data as-is and does not warn about truncation — validate the output before sharing it.

What is the maximum file size accepted by the online converter?
