| Description | APE audio format (also referred to as the Monkey's audio format) is a popular lossless compression format supported by various Windows-based media players. APE achieves high quality with a 50% file size reduction compared to many popular lossy formats. Meanwhile, this format allows you to create excellent copies of your CD tracks with zero detriment to sound quality. As to the downsides of this format, it poses difficulty encoding because it uses a CPU-intensive compression pattern. Another shortcoming is that it is platform-dependent and works on Windows only. |

| Description | MP3 is the most popular audio file type based on MPEG-1 Layer III compression. Its lossy algorithm was developed in 1991. MP3 codes the sound almost with the same quality, as CD (16-bit stereo), providing compression in size 1 to 10 from the original WAF or AIFF tracks. The quality of MP3 seriously depends on the bitrate. It can be 128 - 256 kbps. Higher bitrates are also supported, but they seriously increase the file size. It is supported by all modern hard- and software players. |

APE (Monkey's Audio) is a lossless audio format with better compression than FLAC — but supported by almost no hardware and few mobile players. Android removed native APE support in newer versions; iOS never had it. Most car stereos, Bluetooth speakers, and portable players require MP3 or AAC. Converting APE to MP3 gives you a file that plays everywhere, on every device, without a dedicated codec app. Drop your .ape file above and get an MP3 in seconds.
APE (Monkey's Audio) is a lossless audio compression format developed by Matthew T. Ashland, released in 2000. It compresses audio more aggressively than FLAC — a 30 MB WAV file becomes approximately 12 MB in APE vs 15–20 MB in FLAC — but at a cost: APE is extremely CPU-intensive to decode and has almost no hardware player support.
APE files use the .ape extension and often come paired with a .cue file that splits a full CD rip into individual tracks using timestamps. The format is common in older CD-ripping archives and Chinese music communities. Desktop players that support APE include foobar2000, Winamp, MediaMonkey, MPC-HC, and VLC (with plugin). iOS, most Android versions, and virtually all car stereos do not support APE.

The desktop Total Audio Converter supports command-line batch conversion with CUE sheet support:
TotalAudioConverter.exe C:\Music\*.ape /mp3 /out C:\MP3_Library\ /quality 192
This converts all APE files in a folder to MP3 at 192 kbps. You can add /cue to automatically split APE+CUE rips into individual MP3 tracks using the embedded cue sheet. Embed the command in a .bat file to process new APE downloads automatically when added to a watch folder.
