Tables in text-based PDFs convert well when columns are clearly aligned and cells do not span across unusual coordinates. Simple financial statements, price lists, and exported database reports convert reliably. Complex nested tables, merged cells that span multiple rows, or tables created from overlapping text boxes in the PDF may come out with shifted columns or merged content and will need minor cleanup in Excel.

What about scanned PDFs — will the data extract correctly?

Scanned PDFs contain only a raster image of each page with no machine-readable text. The online converter cannot extract data from a scan. For scanned PDFs, OCR (optical character recognition) is required before meaningful XLSX output is possible. Will formulas from an Excel-originated PDF come through?

No. When an Excel file is saved as PDF, all formulas are replaced by their calculated values — the PDF stores only the final numbers. Converting that PDF back to XLSX recovers the values as static numbers, not live formulas. There is no way to reconstruct formulas from a PDF because the formula logic is not stored in the PDF format.

What is the file size limit?

The online converter accepts PDF files up to 50 MB. For larger PDFs, documents with hundreds of data pages, or recurring automated extraction jobs (e.g., pulling monthly reports from a PDF archive), use the desktop Total PDF Converter.
