File extension .PNG
CategoryImage File
DescriptionPNG images provide lossless compression, that is why the quality of the picture is nice, but the size of the file is huge. Because of it this file format is used by photographers. PNG may have several layers of transparency and even include short text descriptions which help search engines to examine the file. Although PNG was developed to replace GIF and partly other formats, it doesn’t support animation since it can’t contain several images like GIF.

DNG to PNG Converter — Frequently Asked Questions ▼

DNG (Digital Negative) is Adobe's open RAW image format, introduced in 2004 as a documented alternative to proprietary camera RAW formats. It stores unprocessed sensor data from the camera plus white balance, exposure, and camera profile metadata. DNG is used natively by Leica, Ricoh, DJI drones, and Google Pixel cameras, and is the output format when Lightroom converts other RAW formats for archival storage.
Upload your .dng file to the CoolUtils converter. The converter applies the embedded camera profile and white balance to demosaic the raw Bayer sensor data into a full-color RGB image, then encodes it as a lossless PNG. Download the .png when done. No Lightroom, no Adobe Camera Raw required.
No. PNG uses lossless compression, so no pixel data is discarded. The output PNG is a fully processed, pixel-accurate rendering of the DNG at default settings — identical to the preview shown in Lightroom or Adobe Camera Raw. You do lose the non-destructive RAW editing capability (the ability to change exposure, white balance, etc.), so keep the original DNG for future editing.
Cameras that shoot DNG natively include: Leica M11, M10, Q2, and SL2 series; Ricoh GR III and GR IIIx; Pentax K-series DSLRs; DJI Mavic, Air, and Mini drones; Google Pixel phones (Pro RAW mode); Sigma fp and fp L; and Hasselblad X2D 100C. Adobe Lightroom and the free Adobe DNG Converter can also convert CR2, NEF, ARW, RAF, and other proprietary RAW formats to DNG.
Yes, at default settings. The converter applies the same camera profile, white balance, and tone curve stored in the DNG metadata that Lightroom uses for its default rendering. If you have applied custom edits or presets to the DNG in Lightroom, those adjustments are stored in Lightroom's catalog and are not embedded in the DNG file itself — only the default rendering is produced.
DNG stores unprocessed 12/14-bit raw sensor data — it requires RAW-processing software to render into a viewable image and supports extensive non-destructive editing. PNG stores a fully processed 8 or 16-bit RGB image that any application can open. DNG is a working/archival format; PNG is a delivery and sharing format.
The online converter supports files up to 50 MB. A DNG from a 50-megapixel camera can be 50–80 MB, which may exceed the limit. For high-resolution DNG files or batch conversion of large DNG archives, use the desktop Total Image Converter (Windows) which handles files of any size and processes entire folders.

Convert DNG to PNG Online — From Adobe RAW to Universal Web Image

DNG (Digital Negative) is Adobe's open RAW format, used natively by cameras like the Leica M series, DJI drones, and Google Pixel phones, and as a converted archive format from Lightroom. Like all RAW files, DNG stores unprocessed sensor data that requires dedicated RAW software to open — web browsers, email clients, social platforms, and most image editors cannot open DNG directly. PNG is the lossless universal format that everything supports. Converting DNG to PNG applies the embedded camera profile and exposure settings to produce a fully processed, pixel-accurate image in a format that opens anywhere, uploads instantly, and requires no specialist software.

What Is a DNG File?

DNG (Digital Negative) was created by Adobe in 2004 as an open, documented alternative to proprietary camera RAW formats (CR2, NEF, ARW, etc.). It is based on TIFF-EP and is publicly documented, making it accessible to any developer without licensing fees.

How DNG to PNG Conversion Works

The converter reads the DNG file using an embedded RAW decoder, applies the camera profile, white balance coefficients, and default tone curve stored in the DNG metadata to demosaic the raw Bayer sensor data into a full-color RGB image. The demosaicing algorithm interpolates color values for each pixel from the surrounding sensor readings. Any lens correction profiles embedded in the DNG are applied to correct vignetting and distortion. The resulting processed RGB image — identical in appearance to how the photo renders in Lightroom at default settings — is then encoded as PNG using DEFLATE lossless compression and saved to disk.
