EPS File

File extension .EPS
CategoryImage File
DescriptionEPS (Encapsulated PostScript) is an extension for files based on the PostScript language and intended for printers/image setters featuring image processors supporting PostScript. There are two types of EPS files: vector graphic files, which are supported by and can be edited in Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw, etc., and EPS photo files, which can be edited in programs like PhotoShop. For easier viewing, EPS files contain bitmap images, because it would take too complicated vector instructions to draw an image.

JPG File

File extension .JPG, .JPEG, .JPE, .JFIF, .JFI
CategoryImage File
DescriptionJPG is the file format for images made by digital cameras and spread throughout the world wide web. Saving in JPG format an image loses its quality, because of the size compression. But at the end you have a much smaller file easy to archive, send, and publish in the web. These are the cases when an image's size matters more than image's quality. Nonetheless, by using professional software you can select the compression degree and so affect the image's quality.

Needed a quick JPG preview of an EPS file to send to a client for approval — this gave me a sharp, accurate render in moments without opening any vector editor.

EPS to JPG Converter — Frequently Asked Questions ▼

EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) is a vector graphics format developed by Adobe in 1987. It stores artwork as PostScript language instructions — mathematical path descriptions rather than pixels — making it resolution-independent. EPS was the standard format for logo and illustration exchange in professional print workflows throughout the 1990s and 2000s.
EPS requires a PostScript interpreter to render. Standard Windows applications (Photos, File Explorer thumbnails, web browsers) do not include a PostScript renderer. You need Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, or Ghostscript to open EPS natively. The online converter handles the PostScript interpretation for you.
You can select the output resolution before converting — typically 72 or 96 DPI for screen use, 150 DPI for medium-quality print, and 300 DPI for professional print. Vector EPS artwork is scalable, so higher resolution outputs produce larger, sharper images without any quality loss from the source.
JPEG uses lossy compression, so some image data is discarded relative to a lossless source. The converter produces high-quality JPEG output (90–95 quality equivalent). For lossless output from EPS, convert to PNG or TIFF instead.
EPS files designed for print production are often in CMYK color space. The converter converts CMYK to sRGB for standard JPEG output, since JPEG does not support CMYK in most applications. If you need CMYK output for print, convert to TIFF instead.
EPS files with fonts embedded as outlines (paths) convert correctly. EPS files referencing external fonts that are not embedded may show fallback or missing glyphs. For reliable results, ensure the EPS has all fonts converted to outlines before conversion.
The online converter handles multiple EPS file uploads. For bulk conversion of large EPS libraries — stock vector archives, brand asset folders, design project archives — Total Image Converter (Windows, $29.90) processes entire folders of EPS files to JPEG at configurable resolution and quality settings.

Convert EPS to JPG Online — Vector PostScript to Universal JPEG

EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) is the vector graphics format used in professional print production, logo design, and prepress workflows — but it cannot be opened by photo editors, displayed by web browsers, or accepted by most sharing platforms. JPEG is the universal image format, instantly viewable on every device and accepted everywhere. Converting EPS to JPG rasterizes the PostScript vector artwork at any target resolution, producing a standard image file that works in every application. No Illustrator, no Ghostscript installation — upload the EPS and receive a ready-to-use JPEG.

What Is an EPS File?

EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) is a vector graphics file format developed by Adobe in 1987, based on the PostScript page description language. It was the industry standard for exchanging vector artwork between applications throughout the 1990s and 2000s, and remains in wide use in legacy print and prepress workflows.

How EPS to JPG Conversion Works

The converter interprets the EPS file's PostScript language instructions using a PostScript rendering engine (equivalent to Ghostscript). The vector paths, fills, strokes, and any embedded raster elements are rasterized at the target output resolution — typically 150 DPI for screen use or 300 DPI for print use. The rendering engine resolves all PostScript drawing commands into a pixel grid, applying color fills, gradients, and transparency. The resulting raster image is then compressed with JPEG's DCT algorithm to produce the output file. EPS files with CMYK color are converted to sRGB for standard JPEG output. Embedded preview thumbnails in the EPS are not used — the converter always renders from the full PostScript program to produce maximum quality.
