MHT File

File extension .MHT
CategoryDocument File
DescriptionMHT (MHTML) is intended for archiving web pages and combining the HTML code and resources - images, animation, audio files, into a single HTML file. These resources are usually represented as external links. The content of resulting files is encoded in the same way as in HTML email messages. MHT files use MIME type encoding. MHT files are directly supported by Internet Explorer and can be opened in it. Also, they can be opened in Firefox and other browsers, providing users install add-on software.

JPG File

File extension .JPG, .JPEG, .JPE, .JFIF, .JFI
CategoryImage File
DescriptionJPG is the file format for images made by digital cameras and spread throughout the world wide web. Saving in JPG format an image loses its quality, because of the size compression. But at the end you have a much smaller file easy to archive, send, and publish in the web. These are the cases when an image's size matters more than image's quality. Nonetheless, by using professional software you can select the compression degree and so affect the image's quality.

MHT to JPG Converter — Frequently Asked Questions ▼

Upload your .mht or .mhtml file to the CoolUtils converter and click Download. The converter extracts the HTML content and all embedded resources from the MHT MIME archive, renders the assembled page in a browser engine, and captures the full page layout as a JPG image. No Edge, Internet Explorer, or browser extension needed. Files up to 50 MB, no signup.
MHT (MIME HTML) is a web archive format that bundles a complete web page — HTML markup, CSS, JavaScript, and all embedded images — into a single file using MIME multipart encoding (RFC 2557). Also called MHTML, the format was popularized by Internet Explorer's 'Save as Web Archive' feature. Microsoft Edge continues to support MHT natively. Chrome and Firefox dropped native MHT support in 2020–2021 due to security concerns about embedded script execution.
Yes. MHT and MHTML are identical formats — both implement RFC 2557 MIME encapsulation of HTML. The only difference is the file extension: .mht is the legacy 3-character form used by Internet Explorer; .mhtml is the longer form used by Edge (Chromium) and some browser extensions. The converter processes both extensions identically.
The full page. The converter renders the complete MHT document from top to bottom — not just the visible viewport — and captures the entire page height as a single JPG image. This is valuable for full-length web pages, complete receipts, archived articles, and long legal notices.
Chrome removed native MHT/MHTML support in 2020 and Firefox in 2021, citing security vulnerabilities. MHTML files can embed active scripts that execute in the context of a trusted local resource, creating attack vectors for malicious .mht email attachments. Edge (Chromium) retains MHT support as a legacy feature for enterprise compatibility. Converting MHT to JPG is the safest way to access the content on any browser.
The online converter processes one file at a time. For batch conversion of MHT archive collections — eDiscovery evidence processing, legacy intranet archive migration, or IE retirement cleanup — use the desktop Total Doc Converter. It processes entire folders in a single run and supports command-line execution for automated processing pipelines.
The online converter supports files up to 50 MB. MHT files range widely in size depending on how many images are embedded — a text-heavy page is typically a few hundred KB; a media-rich page can be 10–30 MB. For files exceeding 50 MB, use the desktop Total Doc Converter, which has no file size limit.

Convert MHT to JPG Online — Turn Saved Web Pages into Portable Images

An MHT file is a complete web page archive — HTML, CSS, images, and all resources packed into one file by Internet Explorer or Edge's "Save as Web Archive" feature. But Chrome and Firefox don't open MHT, and most people can't view these files without a specific browser. Converting MHT to JPG renders the full page in a browser engine and captures a pixel-perfect screenshot — viewable on any device, shareable anywhere, no browser required. Drop your .mht file and download a JPG in seconds.

What Is an MHT File?

Also called MHTML (.mhtml), it was popularized by Internet Explorer's "Save as Web Archive" and is supported by Edge. Chrome and Firefox removed native MHT support in 2020–2021 citing security concerns.

Batch Convert MHT to JPG with Desktop Software

To convert an entire archive of MHT web captures to JPG images in a single pass — for eDiscovery processing, intranet archive migration, or IE retirement cleanup — use Total Doc Converter. It renders each MHT page with its embedded resources and outputs a full-page JPG image:

docconverter.exe /S "C:\MHT-Archive\*.mht" /F JPG /O "C:\JPG-Output"

Also handles .mhtml files with the same command (change the wildcard). Ideal for processing large collections of Internet Explorer "Save as Web Archive" files. 30-day free trial, no credit card required.

How MHT to JPG Conversion Works

The converter extracts the HTML content and all embedded resources (images, stylesheets) from the MHT MIME archive. The assembled page is loaded into a headless browser rendering engine which applies CSS layout and renders the full document — not just the visible viewport, but the entire page from top to bottom. The rendered page is captured as a full-height JPG screenshot. Dynamic JavaScript is not executed; the page is captured in its loaded state. External resources not embedded in the MHT archive may not render if servers are unreachable.
