CategoryImage File
DescriptionJPG is the file format for images made by digital cameras and spread throughout the world wide web. Saving in JPG format an image loses its quality, because of the size compression. But at the end you have a much smaller file easy to archive, send, and publish in the web. These are the cases when an image's size matters more than image's quality. Nonetheless, by using professional software you can select the compression degree and so affect the image's quality.

TIF to JPG Converter — FAQ ▼

TIF (or TIFF — Tagged Image File Format) is a lossless raster image format developed by Aldus and Adobe. TIF files store uncompressed or losslessly compressed image data at full bit depth (8-bit, 16-bit, or 32-bit per channel) and support multiple color spaces including RGB, CMYK, and LAB. They are the standard format for professional photography, scanned documents, medical imaging (DICOM supplements), geographic maps, and print prepress work.
TIF files are large — a single uncompressed 24-megapixel TIF can exceed 70 MB, while the same image as JPG is typically 5–15 MB. Common reasons to convert: uploading photos to websites and social platforms that don't accept TIF, emailing images without hitting attachment size limits, reducing storage on devices with limited space, and sharing with people whose photo viewers don't support multi-page or high-bit-depth TIF files.
Yes — JPG is a lossy format. Converting a lossless TIF to JPG introduces compression artifacts, especially in areas with fine detail, sharp edges, and text. The degree of quality loss depends on the JPG compression level you choose. For web display, 80–85% quality is virtually indistinguishable from the original at normal viewing distances. If you need to preserve the original quality, keep the TIF as your master file and use the JPG only for distribution.
Multi-page (multi-frame) TIF files — common for fax archives, scanned document sets, and medical image stacks — contain multiple images in a single file. The converter extracts each frame as a separate JPG. If the TIF has 10 pages, you will receive 10 JPG files, one per page.
The converter handles standard 8-bit RGB TIF files and converts CMYK TIF to RGB JPG (since JPG does not support CMYK). 16-bit and 32-bit (HDR) TIF files are downsampled to 8-bit per channel during conversion because JPG only supports 8 bits. Some highlight or shadow detail present in high-bit-depth TIF files may be clipped in the 8-bit JPG output.
Yes. Scanners typically produce single-page or multi-page TIF files. Fax machines and fax-to-email services produce compressed TIF files (Group 3 or Group 4 CCITT compression). The converter handles all common TIF compression variants including uncompressed, LZW, ZIP/Deflate, CCITT Group 3, and CCITT Group 4.
The online tool converts one file at a time. For bulk conversion of scanned TIF archives, photo libraries, or medical image collections, CoolUtils Total Image Converter processes entire folders in a single run, supports multi-page TIF extraction, and lets you set output resolution and JPG quality in batch.

Convert TIF to JPG Online — Shrink Lossless Images for Web, Email, and Sharing

A TIF file stores image data in full, lossless detail — exactly what professional photographers, scanners, and medical systems need. But a single uncompressed TIF can exceed 70 MB, making it impossible to email, upload, or share without conversion. Converting TIF to JPG compresses that data into a shareable image that opens on every device. Drop your .tif file, set the quality level, and download a JPG in seconds. Multi-page TIFs are automatically split into individual JPG files per page.

What Is a TIF File?

TIF (Tagged Image File Format, also TIFF) is a lossless raster image format developed by Aldus and Adobe. It stores uncompressed or losslessly compressed image data at full bit depth — 8-bit, 16-bit, or 32-bit per channel — and supports multiple color spaces including RGB, CMYK, and LAB. TIF is the standard format for professional photography, scanned documents, medical imaging, geographic maps, and print prepress work.

How TIF to JPG Conversion Works

The converter reads the TIF file's structure, decodes each image frame (including LZW, ZIP, CCITT Group 3/4 fax, and JPEG-in-TIFF compression variants), and converts the color space from CMYK or LAB to RGB if needed. 16-bit and 32-bit TIF data is mapped to 8-bit for JPG output. Each page or frame in a multi-page TIF becomes a separate numbered JPG file. The output JPG compression level controls the quality-to-size trade-off — 85% quality is recommended for most uses.
