| Description | WebP is a new lossy image file format, whose mission is to overthrow JPEG, which has long been the ruler of the web image world. Although it is not expected to outdo JEG in image quality right away, it seems to be outdoing it in user-friendliness. With Webp, you get a same-quality image almost 50% smaller than its JPEG counterpart. Webp uses VP8 ñ an open-source codec, and a RIFF-based container, which creates a good potential for further development. The format was created by Google. |

| Description | JPG is the file format for images made by digital cameras and spread throughout the world wide web. Saving in JPG format an image loses its quality, because of the size compression. But at the end you have a much smaller file easy to archive, send, and publish in the web. These are the cases when an image's size matters more than image's quality. Nonetheless, by using professional software you can select the compression degree and so affect the image's quality. |

Photographers and web developers convert WEBP to JPG when they need images compatible with software, platforms, and workflows that don't yet support Google's WEBP format.
WEBP is an image format developed by Google in 2010, designed to produce smaller file sizes than JPG and PNG at comparable quality. It supports both lossy and lossless compression, as well as transparency. Despite browser support, many desktop applications, older CMS platforms, email clients, and printing workflows still cannot open WEBP files natively.
JPG (JPEG) is the most widely supported raster image format. It uses lossy compression optimized for photographs and complex images with gradients. Every operating system, image editor, email client, and print service accepts JPG. It lacks transparency support, but for photos and web graphics that don't need transparent backgrounds, it remains the safe universal choice.
