TXT (plain text) is the simplest possible text container — raw characters encoded in ASCII, UTF-8, or another encoding with no layout information. It has no fonts, no images, no formatting: just a sequence of characters and line breaks. TXT files are universally readable but invisible to image-based workflows that require a fixed-size raster representation.
JPG (JPEG) is the dominant lossy image compression format, standardised in 1992. It excels at compressing photographs and continuous-tone images at ratios of 10:1 or better with minimal perceptible quality loss. JPG is natively supported on every device, OS, browser, and printer. The trade-off is that JPEG compression is lossy — each save cycle introduces artefacts, making it unsuitable for text rendering where sharpness matters.
