A video is a sequence of still images displayed in rapid succession. MP4-to-PDF conversion extracts those frames at regular intervals and assembles them as image pages in a PDF document. The result is a portable, printable, universally viewable record of the video's visual content — no video player needed, no playback required. This makes it practical for documenting screen recordings, creating step-by-step tutorial handouts, archiving video evidence, and presenting video content in contexts where embedded video is not supported or appropriate.
MP4 (MPEG-4 Part 14) is the most widely used container format for digital video. It packages compressed video (typically H.264 or H.265), audio (AAC), and optional metadata into a single .mp4 file. MP4 is the standard output of smartphones, digital cameras, screen recorders, and video editing applications, and it is the primary delivery format for web video on YouTube, Vimeo, and social media platforms.

To convert an entire folder of video files to PDF in a single run, use Total Doc Converter. It processes .mp4, .mov, .avi, and other video formats, lets you control frame extraction intervals, and runs from the command line for automated workflows:
docconverter.exe /S "C:\Videos\*.mp4" /F PDF /O "C:\PDF-Output"
Ideal for batch documentation of screen recordings, archiving surveillance footage, and generating visual storyboards from video libraries. 30-day free trial, no credit card required.
The converter decodes the MP4 video stream using the embedded codec (H.264 or H.265) and samples frames at evenly spaced time intervals across the full duration of the clip. Each sampled frame is decoded to a full-resolution RGB image, encoded as JPEG, and placed on its own page in the output PDF document. The PDF page dimensions are set to match the video frame aspect ratio. Audio data in the MP4 is not included in the output — the conversion produces a purely visual document from the video content.
