CBR is a single archive that bundles all comic pages together. Sometimes you need the pages as separate JPG files — for editing, printing one page, embedding a panel in a document, or rebuilding the archive in a different container. CBR (Comic Book RAR) is a RAR archive containing comic page images, sorted alphabetically. Most CBRs already store pages as JPGs internally — the RAR shell adds compression but the page data is JPEG underneath. CBR readers display the pages in sequence; they do not expose them as separate files.
JPG (JPEG) is the universal lossy image format developed in 1992 by the Joint Photographic Experts Group. It is the standard format for photos and scanned color artwork. Every operating system, browser, image editor, printer, and photo viewer reads JPG natively. File size is small because of efficient lossy compression.
