HEIC is Apple's default photo format since iOS 11 — smaller than JPG at the same quality, but invisible to Windows users and most enterprise systems. Converting HEIC to PDF wraps your high-resolution iPhone or iPad photo into a universally readable document that opens on any device without Apple software, codec packs, or special apps. Drop your .heic file, choose page size, and download a clean PDF in seconds. No installation, no account, no Apple ID required.
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's photo format introduced with iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra. It uses the HEVC (H.265) video codec to compress photos at roughly half the size of an equivalent JPEG while maintaining the same perceptual quality. HEIC files can embed a single image, burst sequences, depth maps, Live Photo motion clips, and HDR tone-mapping data — all in one container.
| Property | HEIC | JPG | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Compression | HEVC (H.265) — best quality/size ratio | DCT lossy — universal, larger at same quality | Embeds image; no additional compression loss |
| Native Windows support | No — requires HEVC codec install | Yes — built into all Windows versions | Yes — built into Windows 10/11 |
| Multi-image support | Yes — burst, Live Photo, HDR layers | No — single image only | Yes — multiple photos per document |
| Document features | No | No | Yes — pages, annotations, metadata |
| Email / portal compatibility | Often blocked or stripped | Widely accepted | Always accepted |
| Suitable for archiving | Risky — codec dependency | Good — universal | Excellent — ISO 32000 standard |
The converter decodes the HEIC file using an HEVC decoder to reconstruct the full-resolution image data. The decoded image is then composited onto a PDF page at the specified dimensions (A4, Letter, or custom). EXIF metadata including capture date, GPS coordinates, and camera model is embedded into the PDF's XMP metadata. The finished PDF is a standards-compliant ISO 32000 document containing one page per HEIC image — no Apple software required to open or print the result.
