QIF to PDF Converter — Frequently Asked Questions ▼

QIF (Quicken Interchange Format) is a plain-text transaction export format developed by Intuit. It is produced by Quicken, many bank portals ('Export transactions' → QIF), GnuCash, and legacy Microsoft Money. Each record uses single-letter line codes: D (date), T (amount), P (payee/description), M (memo), L (category), and ^ (record separator). A single QIF file can contain multiple account types — Bank, Cash, CCard, Invst — in sequence.
Split transactions — where a single payment is allocated across multiple expense categories — appear as indented sub-rows beneath the parent transaction row. Each split line shows its category, sub-memo, and partial amount. The parent row shows the total transaction amount. This mirrors how Quicken displays splits in its own register view.
No. The PDF reflects the content of the QIF export, which is a plain-text snapshot — not a verified statement issued by your bank or accounting system. For audits, tax filings, or reconciliation, rely on official bank statements and your accounting software's own reporting. The PDF is suitable for internal review, sharing with a bookkeeper, or informal record-keeping.
QIF date and number formatting is locale-sensitive. A date written as 05/06/2024 means May 6 in US format but June 5 in European format. Similarly, some locales use commas as decimal separators. If dates or amounts look wrong, re-export the QIF from your finance application with the regional format that matches the converter's expectations (MM/DD/YYYY and period as decimal separator) or adjust your app's export settings.
The online converter accepts files up to 50 MB. QIF files are plain text and remain compact even for multi-year account histories — typically well under 5 MB. If you are exporting a very large date range or multiple accounts together, consider splitting by year or account in your finance app for faster conversion and smaller, more manageable PDFs.
The online tool processes one file at a time. For batch conversion of multiple QIF files — for example, twelve monthly exports — use CoolUtils desktop tools with command-line support: point the converter at a folder of .qif files with PDF as the target format. Add options for page orientation (landscape for wide tables) and PDF/A output if you need long-term archival compliance.

Split transactions and investment activities (e.g., Buy/Sell/Div) are also represented.

Notes on Accuracy

The PDF reflects the rendered view of your QIF data for sharing and review. It is not a replacement for your bank’s official statement. For audits, taxes, or reconciliation, rely on your accounting system and original statements.
