| Description | EML files are commonly used for email files generated in Outlook Express and other mail systems. EML emails are stored in standard MIME RFC 822 format. These files include the email headline and body in text ASCII format. Emails, attachments, and hyperlinks are all included when converting EML to PDF. Users can export EML files for archiving and storage and check for harmful code. EML files are compatible with Microsoft Entourage, Apple Mail, Thunderbird, IncrediMail, Outlook Express, and more. |

An .eml file is a single email saved by Thunderbird, Apple Mail, Windows Mail, or any RFC 5322-compliant mail client. It's a plain text file containing email headers, body, and MIME-encoded attachments — but the average recipient can't open it. Converting EML to PDF produces a fixed-layout document with full headers (From, To, Cc, Subject, Date, Message-ID), formatted body, inline images, and attachments embedded inside or extracted alongside. The PDF opens on every device, is accepted by every email evidence portal and legal discovery platform, and serves as a tamper-evident archival record. Drop your .eml file above and download a court-ready PDF in seconds.
The converter parses the RFC 5322 message structure and renders it as a properly formatted PDF page. Headers — From, To, Cc, Bcc, Subject, Date, Message-ID — appear at the top in a standard header block. The email body is rendered with original HTML formatting (fonts, colours, links, tables) or as plain text if the source is text/plain. Inline images embedded via cid: references in the HTML body are decoded from MIME and displayed in their correct positions.
Attachments are handled in one of two ways: embedded inside the PDF as file attachments (Adobe Acrobat displays them as paperclip icons that can be opened) or extracted alongside the PDF as separate files. Both modes preserve the original filenames, MIME types, and binary content exactly. Internationalised text (UTF-8 subjects, encoded-word headers per RFC 2047) is decoded correctly so non-Latin characters appear properly.

The desktop Total Mail Converter handles entire EML archives to PDF in one operation:
TotalMailConverter.exe C:\Inbox\*.eml /pdf /out C:\PDF_Archive\
Add /bates "ACME000001" for sequential Bates numbering required in legal eDiscovery, /attachments embed to include attachments inside the PDF, or /pdfa to produce PDF/A archival output for long-term retention. Useful for legal teams processing eDiscovery exports, HR departments archiving correspondence for compliance, or IT teams migrating Thunderbird / Apple Mail archives to a document management system.
